Q1.What is “Driving on Lantau Island”?ANS
In order to attract more local people to visit South Lantau with a view to promoting tourism and local economy, the TD introduces the Driving on Lantau Island Scheme (the Scheme) to enable members of the public to drive private cars to places such as Ngong Ping, Tai O and Mui Wo via closed roads on South Lantau on Mondays to Fridays (except Public Holidays) for leisure purpose.
In view of the keen demand since the implementation of the Scheme, the TD will implement the second phase of the Scheme on 1 July 2022 to increase the daily quotas from 25 to 50 (including 10 quotas for electric private cars) on Mondays to Fridays (except Public Holidays) after consulted the stakeholders and reviewed the relevant infrastructure.

Q3.How to apply for and collect the LCRP?ANS
An applicant may use the following link to proceed to the GovHK online application system to submit an application. http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/transport/roadandtraffic/lantaupermit.htm

Arrangement to pick up the LCRP
For an LCRP application that is made less than five working days before the day of entry to South Lantau (e.g. an application made on a first-come, first-served basis on or after 19 July 2022 for access to South Lantau on 26 July 2022), the applicant or his authorised person must collect the LCRP in person at the New Territories Regional Office of the TD at 7/F, Mong Kok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street, Kowloon.
For an LCRP application made five working days or more before the date of entry to South Lantau (e.g. an application made on or before 18 July 2022 for access to South Lantau on 26 July 2022), the TD will send the LCRP to the applicant by surface mail.

Q4.Can an applicant make use of the same private car to enter South Lantau for leisure and recreational purposes several times in a month?ANS
No. In order to enable more members of the public to enjoy the scheme, the TD permits each private car to participate in the scheme only once a month.

Q5.Is the LCRP transferable?ANS
No

Q6.After an application for the LCRP is approved, can the vehicle particulars provided during the application process and the effective date of the LCRP be changed?ANS
No

Q7.What is the application fee? Will the fee paid be refunded to the applicant if the applicant gives up the LCRP that has been issued?ANS
An applicant applying for an LCRP must pay a permit fee of HK$75. If an LCRP has been issued, the fee paid will not be refunded even if the applicant subsequently gives up collecting the LCRP or not using the LCRP concerned.

Q8.Before departing for South Lantau, are there any other formalities required after an LCRP is received by the applicant?ANS
No. The applicant however is required to watch the 'Tips of driving on South Lantau', read the pamphlet 'Driving on Lantau Island - Points to note for Motorists' and plan his journey in advance.

Q9.How can an applicant find out if the application is successful or not?ANS
After an applicant has made payment via the online application system, the applicant will receive an email generated by the system, notifying him of the application result and details of collecting the LCRP.

Q10.Under this scheme, is it a must for an LCRP applicant to be the driver or the owner of the vehicle?ANS
It is not a must for the applicant of an LCRP to be the driver or the owner. However, if the applicant is not the owner of the vehicle, prior consent from the owner of the vehicle must be obtained before applying for the LCRP.

Q11.If I am unfortunately involved in an accident in South Lantau, can I seek assistance from towing companies I choose?ANS
Unless the towing vehicles of the towing companies you choose have already obtained the LCRP, such vehicles are not allowed to enter the closed road area in South Lantau.

Q12.My light goods vehicle is usually used as my private car. Can I apply for the LCRP in respect of my light goods vehicle?ANS
No. The Driving on Lantau Island Scheme is only applicable to private cars.
